Carabao Cup: Player of the Match Iheanacho scores and assists in Leicester win; Ndidi on target too
Published: August 09, 2023
Super Eagles duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi opened their goalscoring accounts for the new season for Leicester City in their 2-0 win over Burton Albion in the first round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
Iheanacho got the Foxes' first goal in the 6th minute when he scored from close range from a Marc Albrighton pass.
The Nigerian forward would go on to assist Ndidi in the second minute of the extra time of the first half to double the Championship's side lead.
The 26-year-old was a second-half substitute in Leicester City's 2-1 win over Coventry City and will be hoping he starts on Saturday when they travel to face Huddersfield on matchday two of the Championship.
Ndidi on the other hand was replaced by Dewsbury-Hall in the 57th minute to get a rest ahead of the next game as he had played for 62 minutes in their win over Coventry City last weekend, while Iheanacho was in action for 75 minutes.
Iheanacho picked up the Carabao Player of the Match award thanks to his two goal involvements against the League One opponents.
The Nigeria internationals have been linked with a departure from the Foxes and it remains to be seen whether they will stay beyond this summer at the King Power Stadium.
