Middlesbrough demanding more than N9.8b for Ajax, Lens, Sheffield United target Akpom
Published: August 11, 2023
The future of Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom is still unresolved around three weeks to the close of the summer transfer window.
The Middlesbrough star has been linked with possible moves to Sheffield United, Ajax Amsterdam and Lens.
According to Sky Sports UK, Lens have made an official bid of eight million pounds for Akpom but Middlesbrough are holding out for a fee of more than ten million pounds (equating to N9.8 billion in Nigerian currency).
Ajax are in the market for a center forward who can compete with Brian Brobbey, while The Blades need to bolster their attack following their return to the Premier League.
The Arsenal Academy product has not figured for Boro since the start of the new season as he is not in tiptop condition, having suffered an injury in the Championship playoff tie with Coventry City last season.
Middlesbrough were pushing to extend his stay at the Riverside Stadium and have been in talks with the striker's agent but a deal looks unfeasible at this stage.
Boro are open to the sale of Akpom this summer as long as their price tag is met and they sign a replacement before allowing him go.
Akpom mustered 28 goals in 38 league games to win the Championship Golden Boot award for the 2022-2023 season.
