Chelsea step up their interest in signing 2021 Super Eagles invitee
Published: August 12, 2023
English Premier League giants Chelsea are targeting a deal for 2021 Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise as manager Mauricio Pochettino looks to bolster his attacking options in the summer transfer window.
The Argentine football tactician will not be able to count on the services of versatile forward Christopher Nkunku who is out for an extended period after sustaining a knee injury in a pre-season friendly against Borussia Dortmund.
Albanian national team striker Armando Broja suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament in his right knee during a mid-season friendly against Aston Villa and is at the end stages of his rehabilitation programme.
According to The Guardian UK, via Sky Sports, Chelsea are set to step up their interest in Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise.
Olise is out for the first few months of the season after tearing his hamstring while on international duty with France at the 2023 U21 Euro, but the injury has not prevented Chelsea from including him on the list of potential signings.
The France U21 international of Nigerian descent is viewed as one of the most exciting young talents in the Premier League and was in outstanding form for Crystal Palace in 2022-2023 with thirteen goal involvements in 37 appearances.
Manchester City are also in the race to sign Olise who is contracted to Crystal Palace until June 30, 2026.
The 21-year-old has a release clause of £35 million in his Crystal Palace contract.
