Sean Dyche confirms Iwobi and Everton are yet to find an agreement over contract extension
Published: August 12, 2023
Everton manager Sean Dyche has confirmed that discussion is still ongoing with Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi on extending his contract at the club.
Since moving to Goodison Park in 2019, the Hale End product has excelled regardless of where he has been played.
Iwobi was central to Everton retaining their place in the Premier League in the 2021/2022 season playing as a right wing-back under former Frank Lampard
The 27-year-old also played a significant role as they escaped relegation last season playing as a midfielder registering 9 goal contributions.
He is into the final year of his contract and discussion over an extension has been going on since last year but no agreement has been reached with the club.
Dyche while asked about the situation of the contract extension discussion with the Nigerian midfielder revealed that they are still working on extending his stay at Goodison Park.
"Me and [director of football Kevin Thelwell] have been speaking about the idea of being open with the agents, open with the players and fathoming out in a way that is a more open scenario - open conversations, where are we at with it, what is the truth of it, and working it all out," he told Liverpool Echo.
"That is just an ongoing process, not just with him but with every player whose contract has either got a renegotiation or a question mark or time-lapse."
Iwobi is heading into his fifth season with the Merseyside club and they will begin their Premier League campaign today with a home game against Fulham.
He has registered 138 appearances in all competitions, notching 9 goals and sixteen assists for the 9-time English champions.
