Tottenham Hotspur baulk at N25b price tag for free-scoring Nigerian striker
Published: August 15, 2023
Tottenham Hotspur could be priced out of a move for free-scoring Nigerian striker Gift Orban who is being lined up as a replacement for Harry Kane due to his price tag.
According to Sport Witness, Tottenham Hotspur have been left astonished by the price tag of the Gent striker which could deter them from signing him.
It is known that Gent are looking to sell Orban for at least 30 million euros (approximately N25b in Nigerian currency) which is deemed excessive by Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham are set to earn an initial €100 million plus add-ons that can reach another €20m from the sale of Kane to Bayern Munich and they may have to cough out approximately one-third of the fee if they intend to sign Orban this summer.
Since landing at Gent from Stabæk Fotball in January 2023, Orban has mustered an impressive 25 goals in 26 all-competition appearances, roughly one goal per game.
While Tottenham's interest in Orban has been established, they are yet to make an offer for him but have made initial contact with the player's camp.
Besides the 2023 Olympic Eagles invitee, the north London club have also been linked with want-away Chelsea striker, Romelu Lukaku.
