Official: FC Copenhagen winger Mukairu links up with manager Ruben Selles at Reading
Published: August 16, 2023
With a statement on their official website, League One club Reading have announced the signing of Nigerian winger Paul Mukairu.
Danish champions FC Copenhagen have loaned out Mukairu to the Royals for the remainder of the 2023-2024 season, and the transfer is subject to the usual ratification processes by the relevant governing bodies and international clearance.
Mukairu reunites with Reading boss Rubén Sellés, who was assistant manager when the winger made his move to FC Copenhagen in January 2022.
The 23-year-old has decided to move to the League One club due to a lack of playing opportunities at FC Copenhagen, with no appearances to his name in the new season.
Last season, he was named in the matchday squad six times for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League and featured against Manchester City home and away, and the goalless draw with Sevilla in Denmark, with all the appearances coming off the bench.
Mukairu won the Danish Superliga title with FC Copenhagen in back-to-back seasons and lifted the Danish Cup in May 2023.
A product of FC Hearts Academy, Mukairu has also worn the colours of Antalyaspor and Anderlecht.
Nigeria-eligible trio Femi Azeez, Ovie Ejaria and Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan are on the books of Reading.
