2019 Golden Eaglets invitee Offiah scores first senior goal, named MOTM on debut for Hearts
Published: August 21, 2023
2019 Golden Eaglets invitee Odel Offiah picked up an official man of the match award on his debut for Heart of Midlothian FC in their 4-0 hammering of Partick Thistle FC in a Scottish League Cup tie on Sunday.
Offiah signed a fresh deal with his parent club Brighton & Hove until June 30, 2025 before heading to Hearts for the remainder of the season.
Two days after both clubs confirmed the agreement, the promising defender was named in the starting lineup as the Jambos booked their ticket to the next round of the Viaplay Cup with a convincing win over Partick Thistle.
In what was his sixth game as a professional, Offiah shone at right-back, helping goalkeeper Zander Clark post a shutout, and also scored his first senior goal.
After a Brian Graham own-goal gave Hearts the lead, the versatile Nigerian defender doubled the advantage in the 45th minute when he powered home a header off the underside of the crossbar following a corner into the box from Alex Lowry.
Lawrence Shankland and Kyosuke Tagawa got on the scoresheet in the second half to give Hearts a 4-0 win.
While Hearts' Ambassadors selected Odel Offiah as their Man of the Match, the match sponsor, IT Sameday, named Alex Lowry as the Man of the Match.
