Battle for Gift Orban hots up: Fulham join Tottenham in race for Nigerian goal machine
Published: August 21, 2023
Fulham have joined Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur as well as teams in the French Ligue 1 for the signature of prolific Nigerian striker Gift Orban.
According to Antwerp-based newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws, Fulham have put Orban on the shortlist of strikers to replace Aleksandar Mitrović, who left on Saturday evening to join Al Hilal in the Saudi Pro League for a club record transfer fee.
The 2023 Nigeria U23 invitee is one of the three players being considered by the Cottagers to replace the Serbian, and it remains to be seen whether or not they will make a bid for his services.
With Mitrović joining Al-Hilal for a fee of 52 million euros and the potential sale of Tosin Adarabioyo, it is believed that Fulham have funds in the transfer kitty for manager Marco Silva to strengthen the squad before the transfer window closes for business.
Tottenham Hotspur are locked in talks with Gift Orban's camp as they attempt to seal his transfer from Gent.
But at this stage, nothing is advanced yet as The Lilywhites have not made an official bid to Gent and the striker has not discussed personal terms at all with the north London club.
The 21-year-old Orban has been in sensational goalscoring form in 2023, netting 26 times in 28 outings since landing at Gent from Norwegian outfit Stabæk Fotball in the January transfer window.
Orban is under contract with Gent until June 2027 and is valued in the region of 30 million euros by the Belgian Pro League club.
