'Can beat a man with his trickery' - Pundit urges Sheffield Wednesday to sign Man Utd winger Shoretire
Published: August 24, 2023
Football journalist Ben Wignall has urged Sheffield Wednesday to make a loan move for Flying Eagles-eligible winger Shola Shoretire before the close of the summer transfer window.
The Owls have struggled in their first three games of the new Championship season with losses to Southampton, Hull City and Preston North End.
Wignall wants to see Shoretire at Sheffield Wednesday as he will bring creativity to the side while adding some pace and flair to the attack.
The England U19 international was not included in Manchester United's first team squad list submitted to the Premier League before the start of the season - an indication that he is not in the plans of manager Erik ten Hag.
Shoretire spent the second half of last season at Bolton Wanderers, where he featured in sixteen games in the League One and helped them reach the playoffs.
Another loan move would made sense for Shoretire, given that he is finding academy football too easy.
"Shoretire is an effective ball carrier and can beat a man with his trickery but of course, his end product will need to improve at senior level if he is to get a Championship move to a club like Wednesday," Wignall wrote on Football League World.
"He has proven he can do it at under-21 level and there were flashes of brilliance whilst at Bolton so with Wednesday lacking real creativity out wide in their first three league matches of the new season, they could really do with a Shoretire-esque player that is rough around the edges but has the potential to improve massively with regular minutes to come in and give Munoz another option."
In 53 appearances for Manchester United in the Premier League 2, Shoretire has registered 22 goals and 14 assists.
