Published: August 26, 2023
Poland underage international of Nigerian descent, Maxi Oyedele scored his first goal at U21 level for Manchester United as they defeated Stoke City 10-1 in a Premier League 2 game at Leigh Sports Village Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Joining Oyedele in Manchester United's starting lineup were two other Flying Eagles-eligible players - right-back Habeeb Ogunneye and attacking midfielder Shola Shoretire.
Isak Hansen-Aarøen (2), Mateo Mejía (2), Ethan Williams (2), Joe Hugill, Ethan Wheatley and Samuel Mather were the other scorers for the Red Devils, while an own goal from Willy Kambwala was only a consolation for the Potters.
Ethan Williams in the 34th minute made it 4-0 after he was teed up by Shoretire, before Oyedele got on the scoresheet to further increase United's advantage at minute 40.
The young Red Devils did not take their feet off the pedal in the second half as they scored four more goals to secure an extraordinary win.
Shoretire and Oyedele provided assists for United's seventh and ninth goal scored by Mateo Mejía and Hansen Aarøen respectively.
Oyedele had played in nine competitive games for Manchester United's development squad without any goal contributions to his name before the visit of Stoke City.
The 18-year-old has received his first call-up to Poland U21 squad for international matches against Kosovo and Estonia next month.
