Tottenham coach allays fears over injury which forced Super Eagles-eligible player off v Bournemouth
Published: August 27, 2023
Tottenham Hotspur coach Ange Postecoglou has allayed fears over the injury which forced Super Eagles-eligible defender Destiny Udogie off during the second half of his side's Premier League clash against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.
Postecoglou has underlined that the Italy U21 international of Nigerian descent did not suffer any significant damage, meaning he is in the frame to make his third Premier League appearance against Burnley in the last game before the international break.
Udogie had to leave the Vitality Stadium pitch with eight minutes of regulation time remaining and there had been fears that the injury was serious as the left-back went down under little pressure and had to receive medical attention.
Postecoglou has allayed those fears, saying that the Italian-Nigerian was replaced for precautionary reasons after he kicked the ground.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Postecoglou was quoted as saying by Football.London: "I think he just kicked the ground from what I understand.
"He didn't want to come off but at that stage the way the rules are at the moment they go off for 30 seconds and I thought it was better putting Benny on and keeping the tempo up in the game for us. Just speaking to him now he's fine."
Against Bournemouth, Udogie bagged his first goal involvement in Tottenham's colours, setting up Dejan Kulusevski in the 63rd minute.
