Competition for former Golden Eaglets invitee Osho: Luton Town sign Man Utd defender
Published: September 01, 2023
With a statement on their official website, Premier League newcomers Luton Town have announced the signing of England youth international Teden Mengi from Manchester United.
Mengi is Rob Edwards' eleventh signing this summer and has departed Manchester United having been at the club since the age of six.
The Hatters have informed that Mengi has been signed to increase the options in defence.
The Manchester native will provide competition for Luton Town's central defenders including 2015 Golden Eaglets invitee Gabriel Osho.
Manager Rob Edwards confirmed at the pre-match press conference before his side's first home game of the new Premier League season that Osho will not be available for selection against West Ham United as he is still recovering from a knee injury.
Although Luton Town physiotherapists are working really hard to get him back as quickly as possible, the Nigerian centre-back is not expected to make his season debut until after the international break.
The Reading academy product played a key role for Luton Town as they secured promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs, scoring an important goal in the semifinals second leg win at home to Sunderland.
Luton Town triggered a one-year option on Osho's contract after his impressive performances last season.
