Crystal Palace pull out of deal to sign Iheanacho after Jean-Philippe Mateta's hat-trick
Published: September 01, 2023
Crystal Palace have reportedly pulled out of a deal to sign Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho.
According to Evening Standard, the Eagles have dropped their interest in the Leicester City striker to focus on more versatile attacking options.
Crystal Palace wanted the Nigeria international to replace Jean-Philippe Mateta who has been linked with RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund but the French forward is now set to stay at Selhurst Park after his 22-minute hat-trick against Plymouth in the Carabao Cup.
With Leicester City getting relegated to the Championship, Iheanacho has attracted the interest of Premier League clubs.
Besides Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham have also been reported to be interested in his services in a bid to bolster their attacking options before the end of the transfer window.
The Manchester City Academy product is an experienced Premier League player which informs the reason behind him being linked with a return to the English top-flight.
The 26-year-old has made 196 career appearances in the Premier League registering 42 goals and twenty-eight assists combined for Leicester City and Manchester City.
