Casemiro beats Oyedele, 6 others to win Manchester United's Goal of the Month award
Published: September 02, 2023
Brazil international Casemiro has won Manchester United's Goal of the Month award for August 2023.
The midfielder saw off competition from Nigeria-eligible starlet Maxi Oyedele and six other players to claim the monthly accolade.
Other nominees included first team stars Raphael Varane and Christian Eriksen, and academy players Ethan Williams, Isak Hansen-Aaroen, Sam Mather and Mateo Mejia.
Casemiro's strike against Nottingham Forest on August 26 was voted by Manchester United supporters as the Goal of the Month, with the goal amassing 35 percent of the vote to place first.
Varane's towering header came in second place with 25 percent, while Eriksen's strike against Nottingham Forest rounded off the top three.
Oyedele was nominated for his strike in Manchester United's extraordinary 10-1 win over Stoke City in the Premier League 2 on August 26.
Five minutes before halftime, a ball into the area was not cleared properly by the Stoke City defence, the United number 6 picked up the loose ball and powered an unstoppable shot from outside the box into the far corner, leaving the Potters goalkeeper with no chance.
Oyedele's goal finished joint-sixth along with Ethan Williams' effort against Middlesbrough U18s.
