4 goals in 5 games: Precocious midfielder Nwaneri performing at his best for Arsenal U21s
Published: September 03, 2023
History-making midfielder Ethan Nwaneri is enjoying a terrific start to the new season, having netted four goals and delivered two assists in five games across all competitions.
The Hale End Academy product is unlikely to receive his second call-up to the Arsenal first team when they take on Manchester United in a blockbuster Premier League meeting at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday as he was on U21 duties less than three hours before kickoff.
Nwaneri was among the scorers as Arsenal's development squad beat Reading 3-0 at Meadow Park this afternoon.
The England U17 international of Nigerian descent continues to play above his age group for club and country.
Two days after his first call up to England U18 squad, the 16-year-old was named in Arsenal U21s starting lineup for the fifth consecutive game in the new season.
Forty three minutes into the contest against the Royals, Nwaneri broke the deadlock with a delightful finish and Edwards, with a close range strike, doubled the advantage at minute 63, before Charles Sagoe Jr wrapped up the scoring with three minutes of regulation time left.
Nwaneri's standout display as an Arsenal player was against Leicester City in the Premier League 2 when he netted a hat-trick in a 4-1 win, and he helped Arsenal register wins against West Ham United and the first team of Swindon Town by providing assists.
2023 Flying Eagles invitee Ovie Ejeheri kept his second clean sheet this term against Reading U21s.
