2023 Flying Eagles invitee keeps clean sheet for Colchester Utd after return from Young Lions camp

2023 Flying Eagles invitee Owen Goodman was impressive as Colchester United secured their first home win of the season, beating Tranmere Rovers 2-0 at the JobServe Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Crystal Palace loanee has now kept two clean sheets in his last three games in the League Two and the latest shutout came after he returned from England U20 duty.

This week, Goodman trained with the Young Lions squad at St George’s Park for five days as part of their preparations for the start of the Euro U20 Elite League starting next month.

After Joe Taylor opened the scoring for the U's in the 11th minute, Goodman did well to prevent Tranmere Rovers from grabbing an equalizer two minutes later when he parried a shot from Dan Pike and gathered it at the second attempt.

Five minutes after coming off the bench, Bradley Ihionvien poked home to double the advantage in the 88th minute.

In the ninth minute of second half stoppage time, Goodman pushed Turnbull's header around the post to preserve Colchester United's clean sheet.

The 19-year-old, who is also eligible to represent Canada at international level, has gone the distance in the last seven games contested by Colchester United and has conceded 10 goals.

He snubbed an invitation to train with the Flying Eagles in Abuja before the 2023 Africa U20 Cup of Nations.
