'I was responsible for him signing for Everton' - Fulham coach says he knows Iwobi really well
Published: September 28, 2023
Fulham manager Marco Silva has backed Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi to become a vital player for the club.
The Hale End graduate played a vital role in the Cottagers' 2-1 triumph over Norwich City in the third round of the Carabao Cup played on Wednesday night at Craven Cottage.
The 27-year-old made his first start for the club in the encounter and was on the scoresheet and also assisted Carlos Vinicius for the first goal with a precise cross.
It was also his first goal in the competition since he scored against Huddersfield in 2021 while donning the colours of Everton.
Silva knows what Iwobi can offer having worked with him at Everton and is optimistic that he is going to become a significant player for Fulham.
"As you know, he's a player that I know really well. I was responsible for him signing for Everton as well," Silva told Fulham's official webpage post-match.
"A player that I know what he can do for ourselves in many different positions on the pitch.
"He has quality, he's dynamic, and his energy, as well, means he's going to be another important player for us."
Iwobi has now registered 4 goals in 23 appearances since making his debut in the Carabao Cup in 2015.
He will be hoping to make his first Premier League start for Fulham when they host Chelsea on Monday.
