Nwaneri battles Rice, Trossard, Jesus, Odegaard, Russo for Arsenal Goal of the Month
Published: October 04, 2023
England U17 international of Nigerian descent, Ethan Nwaneri has been nominated for Arsenal's Goal of the Month award for September 2023.
Nwaneri scored twice for Arsenal youth teams last month, against Reading in the Premier League 2 and PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Youth League, with the former making a six-goal shortlist for the club's Goal of the Month.
Against the Royals on September 3, the Hale End Academy product broke the deadlock just before halftime when he lobbed the goalkeeper after a lofted pass from Myles Lewis Skelly.
Nwaneri's sensational strike is one of six goals in the running for Arsenal's Goal of the Month.
The other contenders are first team stars Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard.
Arsenal Women forward Alessia Russo has also been nominated for her superb individual goal against Chiamaka Nnadozie's Paris FC in the UEFA Women's Champions League.
Nwaneri has not figured for the Gunners U21s in their last two Premier League 2 games due to an undisclosed ailment, and was also not available for selection against Lens in the UEFA Youth League on Tuesday.
The 16-year-old missed out on Arsenal Goal of the Month award for November and December 2022, February, April and August this year.
