Chelsea manager Pochettino provides fitness update on Chukwuemeka ahead of trip to Burnley
Published: October 06, 2023
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is yet to decide on whether Carney Chukwuemeka will feature in his side's Premier League encounter against Burnley tomorrow at Turf Moor.
The Anglo-Nigerian midfielder returned to full training ahead of Chelsea's matchday seven encounter with Fulham at Craven Cottage but neither did he feature nor make the matchday squad in the encounter.
Chukwuemeka last featured for the Blues in their 3-1 loss to West Ham and has been recovering from a knee injury since then.
Before his injury, the 19-year-old was beginning to find his feet having started his career at Stamford Bridge slowly, making just 2 Premier League starts in the 14 appearances he made in the last campaign.
He started Chelsea's first game of the season against Liverpool and also started against the Hammers, netting his first goal for the club at the London Stadium.
While speaking during his pre-match conference before the game against Burnley, Pochettino said that he needs to confirm the young midfielder's fitness before fielding him once again.
In quotes relayed by Evening Standard, the Argentine tactician said: "He was close last week to join us. He was training well. I've still not decided because I need to check with the medical staff."
Chukwuemeka will be hoping to get back on the pitch as soon as possible and reclaim his spot in the starting X1.
