'My father is Nigerian' - Talented Arsenal left-back confirms he's eligible to represent African giants
Published: October 10, 2023
Promising Arsenal defender Cam'ron Ismail has confirmed that he's eligible to represent the Nigerian national teams through his father and qualifies to represent another African powerhouse in Egypt by virtue of being born to an Egyptian mother.
The left-back also qualifies to play international football for England as he was born and raised in Islington.
Ismail joined Arsenal at U15 level after he was spotted playing in an Elite Development Academy Soccer shop window, and began the 2023-2024 season as a first-year scholar.
He was unsuccessful in two previous trials with Arsenal before he joined them as a schoolboy in September 2021.
Ismail has racked up twelve appearances for the Gunners youth team in the U18 Premier League at the age of 16, and was on the bench for the UEFA Youth League meeting with Lens exactly a week ago.
"I have Arsenal in my blood, having grown up just ten minutes from Emirates Stadium," Ismail told Arsenal's official website.
"Some of my fondest memories involve attending matches at the stadium, and I really enjoy the atmosphere there.
"My background is quite diverse – my mother is Egyptian, and my father is Nigerian. I started my football journey with Camden Elite, where I played for a few years and had the chance to attend several trials."
Ismail was originally a striker before he was converted to a left-back, where he can contribute defensively and offensively.
