Peseiro invites his former player to train Uzoho, Okoye ahead of Saudi Arabia friendly
Published: October 12, 2023
Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro invited Portuguese goalkeeper coach Nuno Carrapato to train Francis Uzoho and Maduka Okoye ahead of Friday's friendly against Saudi Arabia, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Almeirim-born Nuno Carrapato represented Almeirim, Montemor, SC Covilhã, Torreense, Fazendense and União Madeira among other during his playing days.
Peseiro knows Carrapato from way back as he worked with the retired goalkeeper whilst he was coaching C.D. Nacional.
Carrapato posted nine clean sheets in 27 matches for C.D. Nacional during the 2002-2003 season with Peseiro in the dugout.
The Nigeria Football Federation approved Peseiro's request to bring in Carrapato for the training camp in Portugal because Olatunji Baruwa's visa application was delayed.
Baruwa has sorted out his visa issues and has already landed in Portugal ahead of tomorrow's friendly.
Peseiro drafted in Udinese goalkeeper Okoye due to uncertainty surrounding the availability of Israeli-based Adebayo Adeleye, the only active foreign-based goalkeeper named on the roster.
Uzoho has not been involved in all the matches played by Omonia Nicosia in the 2023-2024 season and the same applies to Okoye, who is back up goalkeeper to Marco Silvestri at Udinese.
The Super Eagles take on the Green Falcons of Saudi Arabia in the city of Portimão, Portugal on Friday, 13th October 2023, starting at 5pm before a clash with the Mambas of Mozambique in the same city three days later.
