Most touches in opposition box: Napoli striker Osimhen leads the way in Italian Serie A
Published: October 15, 2023
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen leads the chart for the most touches made in the opposition's box in the Serie A this season.
Osimhen has made 54 touches which is one better than his Napoli teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who sits in the second spot while Rafael Leão and Inter Milan duo of Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martínez complete the top five.
While his return of six goals in 8 games is impressive, the Nigeria international has not had the best start to the season.
He failed to score in three consecutive Serie A games during which he also missed a penalty on matchday five against Bologna and is yet to score in this season's UEFA Champions League, recording the most shots without scoring by a player in the competition.
Osimhen has also had to confront his manager Rudi Garcia who appears to be under pressure at the moment with Napoli sitting in 5th position in the Serie A standing, seven points behind table toppers Inter Milan.
The 24-year-old left the pitch in the second half of the Super Eagles' friendly game against Saudi Arabia on Friday due to a suspected hamstring injury and will not to add to his international caps in Monday's meeting with Mozambique.
Acting on the advice of the medical team, Osimhen departed the Super Eagles training camp in Portugal on Saturday.
