Tri-national Arsenal defender eligible for Nigeria and England called up to Egypt U19 squad
Published: October 17, 2023
Coach of Egypt U19 national team, Wael Riad has named tri-national Arsenal defender Cam'ron Ismail in his squad list for a training camp, which is currently being held in Ismaila and will run until Friday, October 20.
A first-year scholar at the Gunners, Ismail can play for two other countries apart from Egypt, whom he is eligible for through his Egyptian mother.
The 2006-born player qualifies to represent Nigeria through his father and England where he was born and raised.
The Egyptian Football Association have made the first move to secure his services ahead of their rivals by naming him on the training camp roster after talks with the player and his family.
Ismail trained under the supervision of Arsenal's Egypt legend Mohamed Elneny while the midfielder was doing his coaching badges.
The 16-year-old is among the twelve players classed as defenders in the training camp squad.
Ismail joined Arsenal at U15 level after he was spotted playing in an Elite Development Academy Soccer shop window.
This season, the left-back has been involved in all but one of the matches Arsenal have played in the U18 Premier League, starting three and was subbed in on three occasions.
