'I was almost wrestling with them' - Ighalo reveals the two toughest defenders he's faced in Saudi PL
Published: October 17, 2023
Former Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo has named former West Brom star Ahmed Hegazi and Al-Hilal ace Ali Al-Bulayhi as the two toughest defenders he has faced in the Saudi Pro League.
Hegazi has been playing for Al-Ittihad since 2020, while Ali Al-Bulayhi, a Saudi Arabia international who went the distance against the Super Eagles last Friday, has made more than 175 appearances for Al-Hilal.
After leaving Manchester United, Ighalo wore the colours of Saudi Pro-League clubs Al-Shabab and Al-Hilal before joining Al-Wahda in the summer transfer window.
The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Golden Boot winner has earned a reputation as one of the best strikers in the Saudi Pro League, winning the top scorer award in the division for the 2021-2022 season.
Ighalo spoke about his previous duels with Hegazi and Al-Bulayhi, and described them as 'wrestling'.
"The best are Ahmed Hegazi in Al-Ittihad and Ali Al-Bulayhi in Al-Hilal," Ighalo said on the Saudi SBC channel.
"When I was in Al-Shabab, I was almost wrestling with them. Al-Bulayhi is my crazy friend. I was suffering from him before moving to Al-Hilal."
Ighalo has picked up where he left off last season, having scored 6 goals in 8 appearances for his new employer Al-Wahda.
