Chelsea's Golden Eaglets-eligible player reveals the four defenders he loves the most
Published: October 20, 2023
Chelsea's Golden Eaglets-eligible player Saheed Olagunju has named two Real Madrid stars past and present in the shape of Sergio Ramos and Antonio Rudiger as the defenders he loves the most.
Described as a defender who is technically proficient in playing out from the back, Olagunju has also cited current Chelsea star Thiago Silva and club legend John Terry as his roles models.
A left-sided central defender by trade, Olagunju joined Chelsea from Charlton Athletic as an U12, rising through the youth team ranks to sign a scholarship deal in the summer of 2023.
Although he has yet to make his season debut for the Blues in the U18 Premier League, the highly-rated center back scored his first competitive goal for Chelsea U18s in their 4-2 win over Barnsley in a Premier League Cup match last month.
Five minutes from time, Olagunju headed home from a corner to score Chelsea's fourth goal of the contest.
Asked the defenders he loves the most, Olagunju said to Chelsea's official website: "I think away from Chelsea my favourite defenders are Sergio Ramos in his prime and Antonio Rudiger. They are both unbelievable players.
"Here at Chelsea, Thiago Silva and John Terry are definitely blueprints of the modern day defender for someone like myself."
Olagunju is in contention to make his second appearance for Chelsea in the U18 Premier League Cup in Saturday's clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
