Iheanacho sets new personal record after goal in Leicester City's 3-1 win at Swansea City
Published: October 21, 2023
Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho broke a personal record for scoring in consecutive league games during Leicester City's 3-1 win against Swansea City in a Championship game at the Swansea.com Stadium on Saturday afternoon, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Iheanacho departing the Super Eagles camp last weekend had nothing to do with his fitness as he was excused from Monday's international friendly with Mozambique to attend to pressing personal issues.
Indeed, the 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup Golden Ball winner was named in the matchday squad against the Swans and was brought on to replace Jamie Vardy with six minutes of regulation time left.
Three minutes after Iheanacho hopped off the bench, he sealed the Foxes win by scoring a crucial third goal to give the visitors a two-goal advantage.
The Leicester City number 14 sent the ball beyond goalkeeper Carl Rushworth after a defence-splitting pass by Ricardo.
This is the first time in Iheanacho's professional career that he has managed to score in four consecutive league games, a run that started on October 1 against Blackburn Rovers.
Since his strike against Rovers, he has scored in back-to-back games against Preston North End, Stoke City and Swansea City.
Iheanacho's previous best was in the 2020-2021 season when he scored in three consecutive Premier League games on two different occasions - March and April 2021.
