'It was just a hit' - Celtic-owned defender Lawal describes his first career goal as 'an absolute swinger'
Published: October 27, 2023
Celtic-owned defender Bosun Lawal has talked through his first professional goal which put Fleetwood Town 1-0 up in their win over Reading on Tuesday in a League One fixture.
The 20-year-old got his goal in the second minute of the encounter in what was his 10th appearance for the club.
Lawal made his debut for Celtic first team last season but had to be loaned out to Fleetwood to garner more first-team experience.
The Super Eagles-eligible player has described how he got his name on the scoresheet for the first time in his senior career.
"It was my first career goal; I didn't know much about it as it was just an absolute swinger!" Lawal told the official website of Fleetwood Town ahead of Saturday's trip to Barnsley.
"The ball came back to me, and I just said why not, I swung at it with my weak foot, and it ended up where it ended up, in the bottom corner, it was just a hit and hope really."
The versatile centre-back, who has the ability to play in multiple positions, has started all but one game that he has made the matchday squad in the League One this season.
Lawal will be hoping he can continue to impress at the Highbury Stadium to get a chance of nailing a spot in Celtic's first team next season.
