'My goal was one to remember' - Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina delighted to get off the mark
Published: November 06, 2023
Nottingham Forest returned to winning ways on Sunday with a 2-0 victory over high-flying Aston Villa, with two Nigeria internationals in the shape of Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina on parade at the City Ground.
Ola Aina had unarguably his best performance in a Nottingham Forest shirt in the win against Aston Villa, not least his brilliant goal that gave the two-time European champions a crucial lead inside five minutes.
In a well worked move, the Super Eagles defender guided the ball into the bottom corner with a sidefoot finish from about 25 yards
The Chelsea academy product had not scored since opening the scoring for Torino in a 2-1 win at Udinese on October 23, 2022 and ended a goal drought that lasted 378 days.
Aina has praised his teammates for overcoming one of the form teams in the English Premier League, against all the odds.
Speaking to Sky Sports post-match, via BBC Sport, the Nottingham Forest number 43 stated: "Massive win. We were disappointed last week but today we are happy, we fought for each other and got the win.
"My goal was one to remember. I am happy to get off the mark and help the team.
"We can all be proud, we stuck to the game plan, we dug in and fought for each other."
Aina, Nottingham Forest's Player of the Month for September, has shown his versatility this season with impressive performances in the wingback, left-back and right-back roles.
