'We created many chances' - Iwobi insists Fulham dominated Manchester United despite loss
Published: November 07, 2023
Alex Iwobi has revealed that Fulham can only blame themselves for their 1-0 loss to Manchester United in a Premier League encounter last weekend and highlighted that the Cottagers dominated the game but did not take the chances that came their way.
Manchester United's Portugal star Bruno Fernandes scored the game-winning goal in the first minute of stoppage time when he stroked a low finish with clinical precision into the bottom corner after capitalizing on a poor clearance by Joao Palhinha.
In the first half, Iwobi was presented with one of those opportunities to score but his shot from outside the box went off target.
And in the second half, Fulham were asking most of the questions and came close to breaking the deadlock through Harry Wilson and Palhinha who hit their shots with great ferocity but drew saves from Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana.
From the total shots played by Fulham, they had an expected goals figure of 1.17, 0.43 more than their opponents Manchester United.
"Of course it’s difficult to take. We had the opportunities to get a goal and we felt like we were on top of them as well, we dominated, especially in the second half," Iwobi said to Fulham's official webpage.
"But we just have to go again, put this to rest, analyse and take the positives into the next game.
"We played well. The fighting spirit was there, we created many chances, we did well with the ball.
"Like I said, I feel like in the second half we dominated much more, so we just have to take that into the next game.
"We analysed them well and I feel like it was a good performance, but it’s the small details that win the game and unfortunately Man United took all three points."
After three matches without a win in the Premier League, Iwobi and his Fulham teammates will be aiming to return to winning ways when they travel to Aston Villa on Sunday in their last game before the international break.
