Southampton warn Trabzonspor there is great interest in Onuachu from other Turkish clubs
Published: November 07, 2023
Championship outfit Southampton have reportedly warned Trabzonspor that other Turkish clubs are interested in signing Paul Onuachu next summer.
Onuachu joined Southampton from Genk in the January transfer window and was shipped out on a season-long loan to Trabzonspor in September, with the Nigerian center forward failing to impress in the second half of last season.
The 2.01-meter striker has shown that he is back to form since transferring to Trabzonspor, registering four goals and one assist in seven outings in the Super Lig.
According to Fotospor, the Saints contacted Trabzonspor and asked the Turkish club what they thought about activating the purchase option in Onuachu's loan contract.
Trabzonspor informed Southampton that their purchase option is valid until May 2024 and they are not working on triggering the option to buy at the moment.
Southampton conveyed a message that shocked the Trabzonspor management, informing them that there is great interest in Onuachu from Turkey.
Although the identities of the Turkish clubs interested in Onuachu remain a mystery, it has been claimed that the attacker's agent has close links with Swedish intermediary Patrick Mork, who has recently been in talks with Beşiktaş for some Scandinavian players.
The FC Ebedei product has a contract with Southampton until June 30, 2026.
