Arsenal coach promotes 15yo striker of Nigerian descent to first team training ahead of Sevilla clash
Published: November 07, 2023
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta promoted Denmark U17 international of Nigerian descent Chidozie Obi-Martin to first-team training on Tuesday ahead of his side's Champions League matchday 4 encounter against Sevilla at the Emirates Stadium in London, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Despite training with the first team, the 15-year-old is not expected to feature against last season's Europa League winners on Wednesday but he's in contention to play for the U19s in the UEFA Youth League.
Mehmet Ali's side have lost all of their three games so far in the UEFA Youth League, thereby facing the prospect of an early exit from the competition.
They will be without Anglo-Nigerian attacking midfielder Ethan Nwaneri who is away on international duty with the Young Lions in Indonesia ahead of their opening game of the 2023 Fifa U17 World Cup.
Obi made his debut in the UEFA Youth League in Arsenal's 2-1 loss to Sevilla on October 24 and will be aiming to make back-to-back appearances against the Spanish side.
He is growing in leaps and bounds, starring mainly for the U18s but has also made his debut for the development side this season.
The talented striker has totaled six appearances for Arsenal U18s, notching 3 goals.
