Nottingham Forest defender Aina named in PL TOTW alongside Chelsea, Man Utd, Tottenham stars
Published: November 08, 2023
Versatile defender Ola Aina has been recognized for his outstanding performance during Nottingham Forest's 2-0 win over Aston Villa after he was named in the Premier League's Team of the Week for gameweek 11 by Premier League's record goalscorer Alan Shearer.
Ola Aina had unarguably his best performance in a Nottingham Forest shirt in the win against Aston Villa, not least his brilliant goal that gave the two-time European champions a crucial lead inside five minutes.
The Chelsea academy product ended a 378-day goal drought when he guided the ball into the bottom with a sidefoot finish from about 25 yards.
Shearer has gone with a 4-3-3 formation in his Premier League Team of the Week, with Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario protected by a back four of Nottingham Forest duo Ola Aina and Moussa Niakhate, Manchester United central defender Harry Maguire and Crystal Palace left-back Tyrick Mitchell.
The star-studded midfield consists of Bernardo Silva (Man City), Joelinton (Newcastle United) and Bruno Fernandes (Man Utd).
Chelsea's hat-trick hero in their 4-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur, Nicolas Jackson is flanked by Manchester City's Jeremy Doku and Newcastle United's Anthony Gordon in attack.
On Aina, Shearer said: "He displayed great technique to score against Emiliano Martinez from that range, and defended well to keep a clean sheet."
Aina has netted three career goals since making his Premier League debut seven years ago, with two of the goals scored in the colors of Fulham in the 2020-2021 season.
