Pepe becomes oldest goalscorer in CL history: Nigeria's record holder Mikel was 11 years and 319 days younger

Veteran defender Pepe became the UEFA Champions League oldest scorer on Tuesday night after wrapping up the scoring in Porto's 2-0 win over Royal Antwerp, a game in which Nigeria international Zaidu Sanusi returned to action after exactly seven weeks on the sidelines.

A three-time Champions League winner during his time with Real Madrid, Pepe doubled the advantage for Porto in the first minute of second half stoppage time when he rose in the area to head home Francisco Conceição's cross

Aged 40 years and 254 days on November 7, Pepe became the oldest scorer in the UEFA Champions League in the process, breaking the record previously held by Francesco Totti who was aged 38 years and 59 days when he found the net for Roma against CSKA Moscow in November 2014.

Super Eagles legend John Obi Mikel has the honour of being the oldest Nigerian player to score in the Champions League.

The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner achieved the feat on February 16, 2016 when he wrote his name on the scoresheet in the 45th minute of Chelsea's 2-1 loss to Paris Saint-Germain.

Mikel was 28 years and 300 days when he scored against the Parisians - 11 years and 319 days younger than the new Champions League oldest scorer Pepe.

The Nigerian record was held by Chinedu Obasi (28 years and 142 days) before it was broken by the former Chelsea midfielder.
