'I can relate' - Mikel sends message to Diaz after release of Liverpool forward's kidnapped dad
Published: November 10, 2023
Super Eagles legend Mikel John Obi has reacted to the news of the release of Luís Díaz's father.
The Liverpool forward's father Luís Manuel Díaz was kidnapped last month and spent 13 days in the den of the kidnappers before his release.
The mother of the Colombian forward was also kidnapped but had been rescued earlier by the security forces.
The unfortunate incident made the 26-year-old miss Liverpool's 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest but he returned to action last weekend when they faced Luton Town and helped the Reds secure a vital point with a goal in the 95th minute.
It was confirmed that Díaz's father was released yesterday and Mikel has taken to social media to felicitate with the left winger.
He wrote on his Instagram account: "Glad your father has been released, I can relate to this feeling of Joy"
The former Chelsea midfielder had also been in familiar territory with the Columbian international on two occasions.
The 2013 AFCON winner's father was first kidnapped in 2011 and was also held to ransom seven years later, hours before Nigeria faced Argentina in the last group game of the 2018 FIFA World Cup
