'I don't care about the others' - Peseiro not worried about the absence of Osimhen, Chukwueze, Zaidu for now
Published: November 15, 2023Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has revealed that he is not worried about the absence of some of his key players for tomorrow's 2026 World Cup qualifying match between Nigeria and Lesotho.
The Portuguese football tactician will not be able to count on the services of four players in his ideal starting lineup, with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze, Porto left-back Zaidu Sanusi and Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi not named on the roster for the November internationals due to fitness issues.
While Osimhen and Chukwueze picked up hamstring injuries during the Super Eagles' training camp in Potugal last month, Sanusi and Ndidi suffered muscle-related injuries while on club duties.
Chukwueze and Sanusi are back in action but have not been called up for the World Cup qualifiers because they are both lacking match fitness.
Peseiro admitted that he has been in touch with the injured players but made it clear that he is only focused on the twenty three players he has in camp at this very moment.
"No Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Zaidu and others are not fit but I am only speaking about them because you asked me. It's better I think about the 23 players, come with more confidence, I don't care about the others, only I said recover well, for that I call them," Peseiro said at the pre-match press conference monitored by allnigeriasoccer.com.
"All of them I call all the time not only Osimhen. I call them, you work well, good job, but after that when we start the camping our team is this team, no other team.
"This team is going to do a good job and going to beat Lesotho."
Osimhen and Ndidi should make their comeback from injuries after the international break if their rehabilitation goes according to plan.
