Zimbabwe sweating on fitness of Luton Town striker ahead of WCQ v Nigeria; Peter Ndlovu watches training
Published: November 17, 2023Zimbabwe are sweating over the fitness of Luton Town-owned striker Admiral Muskwe before a crucial 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Nigeria.
According to a press release by the Zimbabwe Football Association on Friday, Muskwe was unable to train today because he is still recovering from a muscle injury he suffered during their matchday one fixture against Rwanda.
The 25-year-old represented England's U16 and U17 national teams before opting to commit his international future to the Warriors of Zimbabwe.
The Luton Town loanee was named in the starting lineup against Rwanda on Wednesday and was forced off injured after just twenty three minutes of the World Cup qualifier.
Muskwe, who learned his trade at Leicester City before joining Luton Town in 2021, is familiar with the two Super Eagles players with a Leicester City connection in the shape of Calvin Bassey and Kelechi Iheanacho.
Meanwhile, Warriors legend Peter Ndlovu watched the training session on Friday ahead of the meeting with Nigeria on Sunday.
The former Zimbabwe skipper is part of the Warriors delegation in Rwanda as part of the association's initiative to incorporate legends of the game in its operations.
In an international career that spanned twenty years, Ndlovu is Zimbabwe's all-time leading scorer with 37 goals and is also their most capped player having played one hundred matches before hanging up his boots.
