Possibility of Osimhen making comeback against Atalanta increases as Napoli star returns to group training
Published: November 24, 2023The possibility of Victor Osimhen making his comeback from injury against Atalanta on Saturday evening has increased with the Super Eagles striker returning to team training at Napoli.
Napoli through their official website on Thursday confirmed that the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner participated in part of the team's training sessions before completing the remainder day's fitness schedule at the gym, alongside teammates Alex Meret and Piotr Zielinski.
The training sessions kicked off with warm up drills and rondos before calling it a day with some technical and tactical work, as Walter Mazzari looks to kick off his managerial career at Naples with a winning start away to a tricky Atalanta side later tomorrow at the Gewiss Stadium.
Osimhen's absence gave a sense of bluntness in attack for the defending Serie A champions, with Giovanni Simeone unable to provide the attacking prowess the club is accustomed to going forward when fielding last season's top scorer.
The 24-year-old picked up a hamstring injury on international duty for Nigeria against Saudi Arabia in a friendly game last month and has since been sidelined.
However, should the medical team confirm him fully fit to start games, the CAF Player of the Year nominee will certainly be delighted at the opportunity to increase his Serie A goal tally for Napoli.
Osimhen has not figured for Napoli in their last six matches in all competitions including two games in the UEFA Champions League.
