Super Eagles stars Ndidi, Osimhen make their comeback from injury after missing 2026 WCQ
Published: November 25, 2023Wilfred Ndidi and Victor Osimhen's rehabilitation went according to plan, with the two Super Eagles players making their comeback from injury on Saturday, November 25.
The two key players were not named on the Nigeria roster for the 2026 World Cup qualifying matches with Lesotho and Zimbabwe because they were recovering from injuries.
While Ndidi suffered a muscle injury before Leicester City's Championship clash versus Sunderland, Osimhen had been sidelined since October 13 after picking up a hamstring injury during Nigeria's 2-2 draw with Saudi Arabia.
The Foxes remained top of the Championship standings with a 2-0 win over Watford, with Ndidi handed a starting berth at the King Power Stadium.
The box-to-box midfielder was withdrawn in the 64th minute and manager Enzo Maresca's decision to replace him was not injury-enforced as he was walking a disciplinary tightrope after he was cautioned in the 62nd minute for illegally stopping Giorgi Chakvetadze in his tracks.
Leicester City secured all three points thanks to Jamie Vardy who came off the bench to score a brace.
Elsewhere, Victor Osimhen was involved for the last 26 minutes of Napoli's 2-1 win versus Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium.
The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers leading marksman with 10 goals returned to group training with the Italian champions a few days before the trip to Bergamo.
After Ademola Lookman restored parity in the 53rd minute, Osimhen provided the game-winning assist for Eljif Elmas with eleven minutes left on the clock.
