West Ham interested in signing Super Eagles defender in January transfer window
Published: November 26, 2023
West Ham are targeting a move for Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi in the January transfer window.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, the Hammers have identified Sanusi as the replacement for long-serving defender Aaron Creswell.
As per the report, West Ham director Tim Steidten has watched the Nigerian closely and wants to bring him over to the London Stadium.
The Hammers still have Emerson Palmieri as an option at left back but David Moyes wants an upgrade on the former Chelsea man.
Should David Moyes' side succeed in signing the Sanusi, there is a chance that Cresswell might leave which might ease the former's path into the team.
This isn't the first time that the Nigeria international has been linked with a move away from Porto as he was reportedly courted by Marseille in the summer.
Since moving to Estádio do Dragão in 2020, the 26-year-old has established himself as the first-choice left-back, featuring in 118 games thus far.
He has however struggled with injuries of late, featuring in six games for Porto since the start of the campaign.
His fitness struggles have also affected his place in the Super Eagles, with his last appearance being in the 3-2 win over Sierra Leone in June.
