Search for a striker: Chelsea identify Napoli star Victor Osimhen as their primary target
Published: November 27, 2023
Premier League giants Chelsea are set to prioritize a move for Victor Osimhen in their search for a striker.
According to The Telegraph, Mauricio Pochettino wants to add a centre-forward to his squad and has the Napoli striker on top of his list.
Apparently, the Argentine tactician isn't filled with confidence with the performances of Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja who are the club's current centre-forward options and want an upgrade on the duo.
Chelsea have been linked with Brentford star Ivan Toney and in-form Feyenoord striker Santiago Giménez but will only explore a move for alternatives if they fail in their pursuit for Osimhen.
The Blues are unlikely to succeed with a move for the CAF African Men's Player of the Year nominee in January due to Napoli's insistence on retaining him for the rest of the season but could stand a better next summer.
The 24-year-old relationship with the Serie A defending champions isn't at its best and that might explain why he has refused to sign a new contract with the club.
Oismhen has recovered from a hamstring injury and made his comeback this past weekend in Napoli's 2-1 win at Atalanta.
