'We are at the signing stage' - Napoli chief provides update on Osimhen's contract situation
Published: December 02, 2023
Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has given an update on the contractual situation of Victor Osimhen.
The Naples-based club have been in negotiations with the Nigerian striker since the summer but both parties are yet to reach an agreement on the details of the new contract.
The situation has not been helped by the controversial video released on social media mocking the Nigerian striker for his penalty miss earlier in the season.
Osimhen will have a year left on his contract at the end of the season, which means Napoli risk losing him on a free or for a lesser fee if he doesn't sign a new deal.
With uncertainty surrounding his future, De Laurentiis has revealed the situation regarding the contract situation between the Italian club and the Super Eagles forward.
In quotes relayed by gianlucadimarzio.com, the 74-year-old said: "For Osimhen we are at the signing stage which has been pending since the summer."
Previously, the Italian administrator suggested that he has not ruled out selling the 24-year-old next summer when he would have a year left on his existing deal.
Arsenal and Chelsea are closely monitoring the situation of the 2023 Globe Soccer Awards nominee and are ready to lure him away from Naples if an opportunity arises.
Osimhen is just returning from an injury which has seen him miss a good number of games for the Serie A defending champions and that has hindered him from adding to the 6 goals he has scored this season.
