Super Eagles watch: Iwobi scores first PL brace; Boniface does it again; Ejuke back in business
Published: December 07, 2023
Approximately a week before the deadline for the Nigeria Football Federation to submit a provisional squad of fifty five players for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, three Super Eagles players were on target to help their respective clubs register wins in league and cup action on Wednesday, December 6.
Starting in England, Alex Iwobi scored two goals for the first time in a Premier League game as Fulham registered a comprehensive 5-0 win over a Nottingham Forest side with Ola Aina going the distance.
The Hale End Academy product broke the deadlock in the 30th minute, side-footing the ball into the bottom corner after a cross from Willian, and got his brace and Fulham's fourth in the 73rd minute when he swept home.
Iwobi was denied a chance of getting a hat-trick as manager Marco Silva decided to replace him shortly after his second goal.
In Germany, Victor Boniface netted for the third game in a row as Bayer Leverkusen defeated Paderborn 3-1 to qualify for the quarterfinals of the DFB Pokal.
After scoring in back-to-back games against BK Hacken and Borussia Dortmund, Boniface took his tally for the season to fourteen in all competitions when he flicked the ball in off the far post for the opening goal in the 12th minute.
Elsewhere, Chidera Ejuke is back in business at Royal Antwerp after struggling for game time and consistency in his first three months at the reigning Belgian champions.
The winger was on target in a come-from-behind 5-2 win over RSC Charleroi in the Croky Cup.
With Royal Antwerp trailing 2-0, the former Heerenveen and Vålerenga dazzler pulled one back just before halftime, before second half goals from George Ilenikhena (2) and Vincent Janssen (2) secured a win.
