Official: Liverpool legend Dirk Kuyt to coach ex-Flying Eagles midfielder Alhassan at Beerschot
Published: December 28, 2023With a statement on their official website, Belgian Challenger Pro League club Beerschot have confirmed the appointment of Liverpool legend Dirk Kuyt as their new coach with immediate effect.
The Netherlands legend takes over from Andreas Wieland who suddenly quit because he reportedly has an offer from a club in his native country LASK Linz.
The 43-year-old Kuyt has signed a contract that will keep him at Beerschot for the remainder of the 2023-2024 season.
He had an illustrious career that saw him play for Liverpool, Fenerbahce and Feyenoord among others, and also represented Netherlands at three consecutive World Cups, from 2006 to 2014.
Kuyt will be coaching former Nigeria U20 international Ibrahim Alhassan at Beerschot.
The 27-year-old plays as a defensive midfielder and central defender these days and has been on the books of Beerschot since July 2022 when he joined from Nacional in Portugal.
This season, Alhassan has appeared in seventeen matches, in all competitions, ten of which he started.
After 16 matches in the Belgian second tier, Beerschot are topping the table with 32 points.
