Akinkunmi Amoo: 2019 Fifa U17 World Cup star finally makes his debut for Omonia Nicosia
Published: January 02, 2024Former Super Eagles invitee Akinkunmi Amoo has finally made his debut for Cypriot First Division club Omonia Nicosia.
Amoo ended his association with Scandinavian giants FC Copenhagen after signing a three-year deal with Omonia Nicosia in September 2023.
The 2019 Fifa U17 World Cup star was frozen out of the Omonia squad due to fitness issues until the start of December when he received his first call-up for a league game at Othellos Athien.
After making the matchday squad five times, Amoo was handed his debut by manager Sofronios Avgousti in Tuesday's 3-1 win over AEL Limassol, coming off the bench midway through the second half as a replacement for Roman Bezus.
It was the winger's first appearance at club level since August 19, 2022 when he was in action for 22 minutes in a Danish Superliga match between FC Copenhagen and Lyngby BK.
Before the introduction of Amoo in today's game, Omonia Nicosia were already coasting to victory thanks to goals from Ioannis Kousoulos and Loizos Loizou (2).
Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho was denied his second clean sheet of the season with a minute to go when
Slobodan Medojevic pulled a goal back for the visitors.
After seventeen matches in the Cypriot First Division, Omonia Nicosia are third in the standings with 35 points, four less than table toppers APOEL.
