Nigeria-eligible attacking midfielder nominated for Manchester United Goal of the Month
Published: January 03, 2024
Nigeria-eligible attacking midfielder Shola Shoretire is in the running for Manchester United's Goal of the Month for December 2023.
The Red Devils academy product has been shortlisted for his brilliant finish against Newcastle United in a Premier League 2 game on December 16.
After the Magpies bagged an equalizer through Dylan Stephenson, Manchester United responded well and scored a winner through Shoretire who made no mistake with the finish after Mateo Mejia found him with a cutback in the 58th minute.
This is the second consecutive month Shoretire is up for the Goal of the Month as he was nominated for the November prize but was beaten to the award by Alejandro Garnacho.
Shoretire's effort is one of the dozen goals shortlisted for the December award, along with goals from Scott McTominay (2), Melvine Malard (2), Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Ella Toone, Hayley Ladd, Ruben Curley and James Scanlon.
Shoretire is aiming to become the first player of Nigerian descent to win Manchester United's Goal of the Month since Odion Ighalo, who won the award in March 2020 for his excellent strike against LASK in the Europa League.
The Anglo-Nigerian teenager has directly participated in eleven goals (7 goals, 4 assists) in eleven outings for United's development squad so far this season.
