Chelsea provide fitness update on two Super Eagles-eligible midfielders ahead of FA Cup match
Published: January 05, 2024
With a statement on their official website, Chelsea have provided an injury update on their players including Super Eagles-eligible midfielders Carney Chukwuemeka and Lesley Ugochukwu on the eve of their Emirates FA Cup clash against Championship outfit Preston North End.
The Blues have brought good news regarding the fitness of Chukwuemeka, stating that he joined full team training for reconditioning phase.
The England youth teamer scored his first senior goal in Chelsea's Premier League clash against West Ham United at the London Stadium back in August, only to suffer a knee injury before the first half ended.
He initially returned to training in October and was named in the matchday squad against Burnley but suffered a relapse that has kept him out of action.
Chukwuemeka has not been called up for the last fourteen matches played by Chelsea in all competitions and it remains to be seen whether he will be included in the matchday squad for the visit of Preston North End.
As for Ugochukwu, he is ruled out of the encounter for sure, with Chelsea informing that the France U21 international is continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme.
The 19-year-old, nephew of retired Nigeria international Onyekachi Apam, suffered a relapse of a hamstring injury during Chelsea's Premier League game at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
One of the first names on manager Mauricio Pochettino's matchday roster, Ugochukwu has played just one game from a possible eight in all competitions due to the ailment.
