Man Utd coach checks out two Nigeria-eligible midfielders ahead of FA Cup clash against Wigan
Published: January 05, 2024
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is running the rule over two Nigeria-eligible midfielders Shola Shoretire and Maxi Oyedele ahead of his side's FA Cup clash against Wigan Athletic, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
First team midfielders Mason Mount and Casemiro are rated as doubtful for the trip to Wigan though the Brazilian was spotted in training earlier this week.
Another midfielder in Sofyan Amrabat has been included in Morocco's squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations which kicks off next weekend in Ivory Coast.
Regardless of the potential absences of the three players, Shoretire and Oyedele making the matchday squad would be difficult, particularly when you consider that they have not made a single first team appearance under Ten Hag.
The Anglo-Nigerian teenagers trained with the first team during the initial part of pre-season preparations before returning to the development squad.
In November 2022, Shoretire was called up for Premier League, Carabao Cup and Europa League matches but wasn't utilized off the bench.
Shoretire and Oyedele left Manchester United on a temporary basis to join Bolton Wanderers and Altrincham FC respectively in search of game time in the second half of last season.
Wigan Athletic will welcome the Red Devils to the DW Stadium on Monday, January 8.
