Arsenal manager takes 16yo midfielder of Nigerian descent to Dubai, UAE for training camp
Published: January 10, 2024
Manager Mikel Arteta has included 16-year-old midfielder of Nigerian descent, Ethan Nwaneri in Arsenal's traveling squad to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, according to Arsenal youth team guru Jeorge Bird.
Arsenal's first team players have landed in Dubai, where they will hold a warm weather training camp in preparation for their next competitive game.
The players will be in the United Arab Emirates until Tuesday, January 16, four days before they take on Crystal Palace in a Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium.
Arteta also named Nwaneri in the traveling squad for the Dubai Super Cup in December 2022, giving him minutes in wins against Lyon and AC Milan.
Nwaneri has received five call-ups to Arsenal's first team and made a historic senior debut for the Gunners in September 2022 when he became the youngest player in history to feature in the top-flight of English football.
He has been in impressive form since the start of the 2023-2024 season with thirteen goal involvements (10 goals, 3 assists) in nine appearances for Arsenal youth teams.
Nwaneri will not be available for selection against Middlesbrough in the Premier League 2 on Friday and will also miss Arsenal's encounter with Reading in the U18 Premier League the following day.
