Official: Tottenham-reared goalkeeper Oluwayemi joins Finnish Veikkausliiga club
Published: January 12, 2024With a statement on their official website, Finnish Veikkausliiga club FC Lahti have announced the signing of Tottenham Hotspur academy product Joshua Oluwayemi.
Oluwayemi has joined FC Lahti from EFL League One club Portsmouth and has departed Fratton Park after making a total of nine appearances in which he posted four clean sheets.
Although he was born in the English capital London, he's not really an unknown quantity in these parts as he was invited to the Super Eagles for a friendly against Mexico in July 2021 as back-up goalkeeper to Stanley Nwabili.
Oluwayemi has signed a one-year deal with FC Lahti that will keep him in at the Black Drones until the end of the 2024 season.
He made his senior debut during a loan spell at National League club Maidenhead United in the first half of the 2020-2021 season.
Former Tottenham Hotspur coach Jose Mourinho promoted Oluwayemi to first team training several times in the back end of the 2020-2021 campaign and picked him as the 21st player for the Premier League meeting with Newcastle United at St. James' Park in April 2021.
The Anglo-Nigerian has been described as a goalkeeper who is quick with excellent shot-stopping skills, has good reflexes and good in one-on-one situations.
Oluwayemi will link up with his new teammates at FC Lahti at the end of January.
