2023 AFCON: Super Eagles boosted by arrival of Terem Moffi ahead of titanic clash against Elephants
Published: January 15, 2024
Nigeria have been handed a boost ahead of their second Group A game of the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations against Ivory Coast
According to a press release from the Nigeria Football Federation made available to allnigeriasoccer.com, Terem Moffi has finally reported for international duty in Abidjan, which puts him in contention to be involved in some capacity in Thursday's titanic clash with the Elephants.
All things being equal, Moffi should train for the first time with his Super Eagles teammates in their workout scheduled to hold at the Ecole Nationale de la Police on Monday, starting from 1600 hours.
Initially named on the provisional roster, the OGC Nice striker was promoted to the final squad to compensate for the absence of Victor Boniface who suffered an injury during the Nigeria training camp in Abu Dhabi.
The Nigeria Football Federation and OGC Nice reached an agreement that saw Moffi delay his trip to Ivory Coast in order to be available for selection in Saturday's Ligue 1 match at Stade Rennais.
Moffi made his international debut in a friendly against Cameroon in June 2021 and has gone on to make a further 13 appearances for the national team, scoring four goals.
Manager Jose Peseiro now has a full complement of players to work with before facing Ivory Coast, though he's sweating on the fitness of Royal Antwerp's Alhassan Yusuf who was forced off in the second half against Equatorial Guinea.
